Necessary materials
This flavourful chicken and broccoli stir-fry requires a handful of pantry staples and fresh ingredients. You may already have many of these items in your kitchen now!
- Chicken breast -I used boneless, skinless chicken breast and a lean source of protein. Thinly slice and cook immediately evenly.
- broccoli – The crisp tender broccoli florets are the perfect vegetable to soak all the delicious sauces.
- Yellow onion – Add sweetness and depth to the stir-fry. I used half of the large onion, but feel free to adjust it based on your preferences.
- Olive or avocado oil – Both are perfect for high heat cooking. Avocado oil prefers its neutral flavour and high smoke points.
- Fry the fry sauce – Delicious sweet mix of chicken soup, low sodium sodium soy sauce or tamari (for gluten-free options), oyster sauce, honey, sesame oil, cornstarch or arrowhead powder, fresh garlic, glat ginger, red pepper flakes (optional). This combo adds an incredible flavour and helps the sauce to thicken completely with the bread.

Brittany Tips for the Best Stir Fry
- Prepare before cooking: It’s important to prepare everything and be ready before you start cooking, as it’s quick to stir fry. This ensures that the process is smoother and excessive heating is guaranteed.
- Customize the source: Adjust the sweetness or spice level of the sauce to your liking. Add honey for sweetness or extra red chili flakes and add a spicy kick!
- I use hot bread: To get that perfect sheer for chicken and vegetables, make sure the bread is clean and hot before adding any ingredients. This helps in caramelization and flavor locking.
- Do not overcook the broccoli: Keep an eye on your vegetables! You want to soften the broccoli, but still hope there’s a bit of crunch. If you heat it too much, you can dull the bright green color.
How to serve chicken and broccoli stir-fry
This stir-fry is very versatile and pairs well with almost anything. Here are some of my favorite ways to offer it:
- On the rice: For a low-carb alternative, stir-fried chicken over white, brown rice or cauliflower rice.
- Comes with noodles: Pair with rice noodles, buckwheat noodles, or any type of pasta.
- Simple side salad included: For light plates, combine this stir-fry with fresh salads like my arugula salad or Easy Kale salad. A great way to sneak into more greenery!
- Meal preparation style: Place the fried container in a grain or vegetable base and put it in the fridge for a quick and easy lunch or dinner all week.
How to store and reheat
Allow leftovers to cool completely and transfer to an airtight container. Store in the fridge for up to 4 days. To reheat, warm in a frying pan over medium heat until everything is heated. If you’re in a pinch, you can also use a microwave. It is recommended to add a splash of water or soup to loosen the sauce if necessary.
I’m not trying to freeze this recipe, but if that’s the case, it might change a bit when the texture of the vegetables (especially broccoli) is thawed and reheated.
