this Cottage cheese lunch dip It’s creamy, tangy and packed with classic ranch flavors. It is high protein, easy to make and is perfect for combining it with vegetables, chips or crackers!
I’ve been doing a bit of a cottage cheese kick recently (I tried out the cottage cheese scrambled egg or cottage cheese wrap and got it). And now we take it to soak it in this creamy, flavorful ranch dip!
That’s all you love about classic ranches (cool, Harvey, tangy), but there’s a healthy twist thanks to the cottage cheese base. I love it’s more protein than your average ranch dip and it blends in smoothly and creamy in seconds. Whether you’re preparing a party, snack board or just need a quick soak of vegetables, this is a recipe that will come back over and over again.
Why do you like this recipe?
This ranch dip was quick to turn to in my fridge and this is why you think you’ll like it the same:
- Lots of protein – Thanks to the cottage cheese, this dip is creamy and I’m pleased with a nice protein boost.
- It’s incredibly easy – Throw everything into the blender and complete it flat in 5 minutes.
- Versatility – Use it as it is thin as a vegetable or chip dip, sandwich spread, or even salad dressing.
- It’s packed with flavor – Herbs, garlic, onions and lemon combos give this laundry a classic ranch flavour with a fresh twist.

Materials are required
To make this creamy Herbie dip, you need just a handful of simple ingredients. Most of them are pantry staples and you’ll probably already have them on hand!
- Cottage cheese -I used excellent cultured full fat cottage cheese. This gives the dip a rich, creamy texture and a protein load. Feel free to use another brand. However, I recommend Full Fat for the best flavor and consistency.
- Lemon juice – Add a bright, tangy kick to balance the creamy base. The fresh one is the best!
- Dried parsley – Brings its classic ranch flavour and colour touch.
- Dried dill – Key herbs for ranch! It adds a slightly tangy flavor, Harvey, which we all know and love.
- Garlic powder – For a rich depth and a little heat.
- Onion Powder + Onion Flake – One-two punch with onion flavor! The powder will quickly blend in while the flakes add a little texture and extra punch.
- Sea salt + black pepper – Put it all together and balance the flavors.
Alternative
This cottage cheese lunch dip is extremely flexible so feel free to adjust it based on what you have on hand and the flavor preferences!
- Cottage cheese: I prefer full fat for the creamiest dips, but low or non-fat also works. Note that the texture may be a little thin. Do you want something completely different? You can try out the blend in a fluffy version of Green Greek yogurt or my recipe for whipped cottage cheese.
- Lemon juice: Fresh is always the best, but bottled lemon juice is done in a pinch. You can also replace it with a splash of white wine vinegar or apple cider vinegar if you like.
- Dried herbs: If you don’t have dried parsley or dill, you can use Italian seasonings or fresh herbs instead. If it’s fresh, double the amount.
- Garlic + Onion Powder/Flake: Don’t skip both, but if you’re missing one, add a little more. You can also use finely chopped fresh garlic or onions. Keep in mind that it smells like a scent.
- Do you want to keep it dairy free? I haven’t tested it, but you can try a dairy-free cottage cheese alternative, like the almond-based version of Kite Hill. Also try my vegan lunch dressing recipe and try some delicious, dairy-free dips.
How to make cottage cheese lunch dip
Step 1: Add all ingredients to a strong blender and blend until smooth.
Step 2: Serve immediately or store in the fridge until ready. Serve with crackers and fresh vegetables.
Brittany tips
- Use a powerful blender: Fast blenders like Vitamix and Nutribullet are the best for their extremely smooth and creamy textures. If you only have a food processor or regular blender, you may need to blend a little longer and rub the sides a few times.
- Blend and then cool: The dip gets slightly thicker and after chilling in the fridge for about 30 minutes, the flavor really goes together. You can eat it perfectly right away, but even better after a little rest.
- Do not skip lemon juice: It brightens the dip and balances the richness of the cottage cheese. Once the dip tastes a little flat, try adding more touches!
How to serve cottage cheese lunch dip
This cottage cheese dip is very versatile and works well with almost anything that you normally pair with a creamy dip. Here are some of my favorite ways to enjoy this:
- With fresh vegetables – This dip is served with fresh vegetables. My go-to option is because it’s easy to soak with carrots, cucumbers, celery and cherry tomatoes. It’s also a great addition to any Metze platter!
- As a spread – Use as a sandwich, wrap or as a protein-filled spread for pita pockets. I love it with my simple pita pocket.
- Comes with crackers or chips – Serve with your favorite whole grain crackers, pita chips and tortilla chips. Also, if you want a gluten-free option, almond flour crackers are delicious.
- Roasted vegetables or salad included – Drizzle over roasted broccoli, sweet potatoes or use as a creamy element in a simple quinoa salad or creamy cucumber salad.
Storage method
Store remaining dips in a fridge airtight container for up to 4-5 days. Stir well before serving, especially if you are sitting down little by little. Some separations are completely normal. Freezing this dip is not recommended as it can change when the texture is thawed.
FAQ
absolutely! Thanks to cottage cheese, this dip is packed with protein, making it a more filling option than traditional ranches.
I haven’t tested the dairy-free version, but I can replace dairy-free cottage cheese alternatives or plain dairy-free Greek yogurt with cottage cheese. Please note that the flavor and consistency may vary slightly.
When blended, this dip becomes extremely creamy and smooth. It doesn’t look like the plain cottage cheese texture. Thick enough to soak, but still spreads in plastic wrap and sandwiches.
